Free, Fun Ongoing Activities for Kids

on October 6, 2012

There are plenty of fun things to do for free with your kids over the weekends.  Here are some great activities to enjoy over the next few weeks that are ongoing throughout the year:

FREE hands-on workshops designed for children ages 5 – 12 offered the 1st Saturday of every month at all The Home Depot stores between 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.  Tomorrow 10/5 from 9am to noon, kids can make a firetruck.  All kids get to keep their craft and receive a FREE Kids Workshop Apron, commemorative pin and certificate of achievement.  Workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills, tool safety and instill a sense of pride.  November 3rd’s workshop is a Turkey Napkin Holder.  Go HERE to find out more on how to participate.

Lowe’s has a great free program for kids through their Build and Grow workshops that they offer throughout the year on the weekends.  So far it looks like there are two workshops per month.  You can register HERE for this workshop and others that are coming up in the near future.  It is a great way to spend some time with the kids, teach them new skills and boost self esteem!  Kids get an apron, a certificate and an iron on patch upon completion, plus they obviously get to take their creation home.  I have a 7 year old and a 10 year old who both were kind of iffy about the idea, but afterwards liked the experience and want to attend the next workshop.  The workshops fill up quickly, so be sure to register ASAP.

Also, throughout the month of October, your child will receive valuable Chuck E. Cheese’s coupons when they attend the workshop!  The next workshop is Saturday, October 13th, where kids can make a ghoul bus.

Your local Toys “R” Us also has workshops for kids to try out toys, make crafts, get freebies and more.  Click HERE to find out where your local store is and to see the calendar of events.  Here’s what’s happening over the next few weeks:
